Cast Steel Globe Valve

The cast steel globe valve is made from cast steel materials. The valve seat and disc employ a conical sealing structure, ensuring a reliable seal. Cast steel is a type of steel produced through the casting process, known for its high strength and plasticity. It is widely used to manufacture complex-shaped parts that are difficult to forge or machine. Cast steel is available in three main types: cast carbon steel, cast stainless steel, and cast alloy steel, all offering excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature performance. As a result, cast steel globe valves are suitable for a variety of media and can operate stably under high-pressure and high-temperature conditions.

What is a Cast Steel Globe Valve?

KOSEN cast globe valves are supplied with a T-type body as standard, featuring a rising stem and handwheel. Flow is controlled by rotating the handwheel, which drives the stem and disc to move linearly, regulating or stopping flow within the pipeline. Globe valves are known for their long service life due to the absence of sliding friction between the disc and body seating surfaces. Bolted bonnet, pressure seal bonnet, bellows seal bonnet, high/low temperature extended bonnet, and ISO 15848 fugitive emission-compliant designs are available depending on service requirements.

  • Design of Disc: Single-disc design is typically adopted for cast globe valves, with the medium flowing from bottom to top. Double-disc (double-seated) configurations are used for applications involving larger valve sizes or higher pressure differentials, where the medium flows from top to bottom. Plug-type discs can also be provided upon request.
  • Design of Seat: KOSEN cast globe valves are supplied with a non-renewable body seat as standard. Renewable seat designs are available upon request.
  • Design of Body–Bonnet Connection: A bolted bonnet is typically used for Class 150 to Class 900 valves, with gasket or RTJ sealing as standard. A pressure seal bonnet is used for Class 1500 to Class 2500 applications, utilizing a pressure-energized sealing ring for body sealing.
  • Design of Packing: Graphite packing is used as standard. PTFE packing can be selected for corrosive media applications. API 622-compliant fugitive emission packing is available upon request.
  • Design of Backseat: A renewable backseat is applied in all carbon steel and low-alloy steel valves. For stainless steel valves, the backseat is typically integral with the body.
  • Design of Actuation: Handwheel and gear box operation are standard for cast globe valves depending on size and pressure rating. Electric, pneumatic, or chain wheel actuators can be provided upon request.
